Attractions
Baxter State Park is home to the tallest peak in Maine, Mt. Katahdin, the terminus of the Appalachian Trail. The region also features one of the country’s newest national monuments, the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, which along with Baxter State Park, offers unmatched opportunities for hiking, paddling, bird watching, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and exploring the flora and fauna of the area. Whether you spy eagles while white water rafting on the mighty Penobscot River or catch a glimpse of an imposing moose lunching on lily pads, you will be in awe of the majesty of this region!
Recreation
The Katahdin Region boasts hundreds of miles of trails for hiking and biking, as well as groomed trails for snowmobiling and cross country skiing. The more adventurous may thrill summiting mile-high Mt. Katahdin, while smaller mountains and trails may appeal to those wishing to experience softer adventures. There is something to do for all ages, all abilities, in all seasons whether on land or water!

Katahdin Region events are a draw to many visitors and citizens who enjoy music, food, fireworks, good will, and camaraderie. The KCC supports and promotes many regional events such The Trails End Festival held in September celebrating the many through hikers who complete their trek on the Appalachian Trail; the famous Millinocket Marathon and Half Marathon which takes place in December (brrr!), East Millinocket Summerfest, Sherman Old Home Days, Winterfest, Patten Pioneer Days and more.
