The Katahdin Region is the gateway to thousands of acres of woodlands where hunting is permitted (when in season) to those holding a valid Maine hunting license. Wildlife including rabbits, ruffed grouse, waterfowl, coyote, whitetail deer, moose and bear are legal game for guided or independent hunting in the region. While shotguns are the most popular choice of arms, seasons specifically for bow hunting and black-powder rifles do exist.

Planning a hunt in the Katahdin Region? Our Guides & Outfitters can assist in planning, outfitting and even guiding you on your hunting experience of a lifetime! While a variety of lodging is available in the Katahdin Region, rustic sporting camps are popular among hunters who enjoy the secluded locations and hearty meals.

Licenses are available locally. The Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IF&W) provides hunters with regulations and guidelines for hunting throughout the seasons. Contact them at (207) 287-8000 for a current law book.

Visitors at that time should remember to wear orange if venturing into the woods for any reason!
